Seeing Architecture on your Italian Vacation On your Italian vacation you would get to notice that architecture has a strong bond to religion through ages. Most of the architectural pieces that you will find in Italy are located in religious buildings, churches and chapels and by just walking around you will find yourself passing by many tourist attractions.Even travelling through the countryside you will find many chapels and churches that have great and uniquely special architectural designs. Those are not the only pieces you can see in this area that has become known as the architectural centre of the world. I cannot stress enough the importance of having a guide while you are exploring the architectual beauty of Italy. Even if your guide is a friend or distant relative they can give you a history on what it is that you are seeing and what significance it may have, and maybe they will be capable of giving an accurate description of the architectural style and pinpoint important details. Yes even though that architecture is related to religion here nothing compares to the great piece of ancient architecture "The Colosseum". This is without a doubt one of the most famous tourist destination here in Italy but until now the style of its architect still remains a mystery. The Colosseum is a huge stadium and it was built for sports events and is famous for the deadly gladiator games that regularly took place here. The Colosseum would accomodate 50,000 people and had over 70 different entrances. During your Italian vacation you can visit the place yourself or go with a group for an unlimited time but the most popular tour is a guided tour for 45 minutes which will only cost a few dollars more. But take note that you will get a lot more out of your tour by taking the guided tour option. No Italian vacation is complete without a visit to Venice and the archicture here is absolutely awesome. An excellent example of what you might find here is the ll Teatro del Mondo which if you translate in english means "The Theatre of the World". Designed in 1979 by Aldo Rossi it is by far, more modern that what you might expect. It is styled after the floating theatres that were a feature of Venice in the early 18th century. Construction was done in a shipyard from welded steel beams to create a huge floating raft that then had to be towed carefully right through the city. Aldo Rossi's dream was that he could recompose the old Venice into the twentieth century. In Florence there is a huge Town Hall of Gothic architecture which has a copy of the famous Michaelangelo's David statue within. The place that I am talking about is called Pallazo Vecchio which you may have noticed while you're on your Italian vacation. In 1865 this Town Hall was where the Italian legislature was seated. But now this is where the Florence City Council meets regularly. The building is full of beautiful architectural designs that are evident in every room, courtyard, and entrance. It also has private rooms and studys and each room has a unique name suggesting an archittural feature found in the room. You can also take guided tours of this massive building or alternatively you can just make your own way around at your leisure and gaze at the ornate ceilings and appreciate this marvelous piece of art design. |
