Travel Tips For Your Italian Vacation
By Anthony Coen
There are pointers that you should follow while on your Italian vacation. First and foremost you should be familiar with all the tourist locations you are planning to visit, in order to do so try to read everything you can about the towns and cities that you desire to visit. For all you first time visitors to Italy it is recommended that you only visit places that your friends and your family suggest to you. For US citizens before you fly and leave for your Italian Vacation you should register your travel plans with the Department of State. No matter where you are from this is highly recommended so that your family and friends may contact you in case of accident or an emergency also important in these times a crisis may occur in the country your are visiting. Most countries maintain a database for their citizens who are out of the country so that you are able to be contacted if it ever becomes necessary. It is also recommended that you photocopy your travel itinerary and also photocopy your passport photo page and leave them with a relative before you depart on your Italian vacation. Several countries impose regulations in accordance to what should be imported or exported from the country with regards to medication, food, pets and other items. Before departing on your Italian vacation you can visit the Italian embassy website for the updated list. You can contact them at www.ambwashingtondc.esteri.it Some people, when they go on vacation for example in Italy, often get bothered about what they would do if they get sick during their Italian vacation? You should be aware that in this scenario your health insurance plan will not cover your medical expenses while abroad and if you decide to move back home for medical treatment it would cost you a lot of money, around $50,000 for a medically supervised flight home. But the good thing about this is there are several companies that will provide you with short term travel insurance giving you full cover while you are abroad. The cost of this travel insurance is minimal compared to the peace of mind you will gain from having such insurance. Your travel agent can generally organize your travel insurance when you are booking your trip and it has been my experience that it is cheaper than organizing it yourself. If you become ill or you are involved in an accident while you are on your Italian vacation contact your embassy in Italy and they will be able to advise you on the best course of action. They will have an updated lists of acceptable doctors and hospital facilities in Italy. If you happen to have pre-existing conditions be certain to carry a letter from your doctor stating your condition and medical history as well as any specific advice that could assist your Italian doctor provide professional assistance. Also in your doctors letter he should also enclose a description of the medication you generally take including generic names for your medication. You will be happy to know that vaccinations are not required if you visit Italy for your Italian vacation but it would be wise for you to check the embassy's website for any sudden changes before you leave.
