Visit Milan On Your Italian Vacation

If you like the city life and want to see how the Italians do it in style then one of the best place to go is Milan. Milan is considered one of the largest Italian cities and the most highly developed city in all of Europe. What makes Milan one of the most marvelous places to visit is its great combination of cultural and its unique historic relevance. Milan is home to over a million people as well as Da Vinci's famous work of art which is "The Last Supper". If that wasn't enough Milan has the best shopping centers in the world. Numerous known fashion designers center their empire here and the opportunities for window shopping or even real shopping while you are in Milan for your Italian vacation are extraordinary. There is an old shopping mall in Milan that was build around the 1800's it has a huge glass and steel arch which is covering the street and at the center of this mall is a large glass dome. This mall is named The Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II and its considered the oldest operating shopping mall in the world and up to this day this mall is still up and running. It still continues to be a thriving retail venue with shops selling just about everything from books to even haute couture, this mall also offers numerous restaurants that serve for tourists and Milan residents alike. You will be delighted to find out that this mall the Galleria Vittorio Emanuel II connects to 2 of Milan's most popular tourist attractions which are the Duomo and the Teatro Ala Scalla. Duomo is the Cathedral of Milan that's where the current Archbishop of Milan resides along with this the cathedral has marvelous gothic architecture. The Duomo played a very important role in the establishment of Catholic traditions and in the spread of Catholic faith. In all Italy the largest church compared to the Duomo Cathedral is the St. Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City in Rome. Mostly in the guided tours they will always give you a chance to visit the Duomo Cathedral and get your chance to glance on this beautiful example of Italian history. Now lets go to Teatro Alla Scalla, which did you know is a very famous opera house in Milan this place is a must visit when you are having your great Italian vacation. The opera house was built in the late 1700's after the previous opera house got destroyed in a carnival fire. The opera house was a gathering place for the rich and wealthy and it had a gallery area over the top of the boxes where less wealthy could get the chance to enjoy and see the opera performances. But only a few years ago the theatre was renovated due to its involvement to some controversies one of which was regarding a concern about whether the historical details of the opera house would be lost. But nowadays you will see that they have done a very good job in preserving the original history of this great opera house. Another great place to visit is the Sforza Castle which took 10 years in building it in the late 1300's. This castle has experienced several reconstructions, as well as additions and many transformations over its 700 years of life and the castle was built to serve as a defensive fortress. When you visit the Sforza castle you will see several museums in it along with some featured castle art like defensive armour and furniture from its early inhabitants. It also displays one of Michelangelo’s finest works of art, a white marble sculpture named the Rondanini Pieta |
